Spring Family Day at the Mississippi Museum of Art
Come and enjoy free activities for the entire family inspired by the exhibition Jim Henson’s Fantastic World. The day also features a special sing-along with The Muppet Movie at 2pm led by Heather Henson, daughter of Jim Henson.

TASTE OF MISSISSIPPI PREVIEW PARTY
The Preview Party for the 22nd annual Taste of Mississippi: A Benefit for Stewpot event will be held from 5pm-8pm, Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Electric Building, 308 East Pearl St., in downtown Jackson.
The event will be a progressive party that highlights downtown Jackson real estate and gives a preview of Taste of Mississippi, which is scheduled for Monday, March 29, at Highland Village. The lobby and areas on three floors of the building will be open for touring during the party.
Guests will be able to purchase items for artwork by Jackson area artists, such as Bill Dunlap, Andrew Bucci, HC Porter, Jerrod Partridge, Anthony DiFatta, Cecilia Baker, Ellen Bourdeaux, Ron Lindsay, Tammy Oliver Cook, and many more. In addition, HeARTworks, an art ministry to the people in and around the Stewpot community will be featured, with a portion of the proceeds going back to the artists. Items not sold during the Preview Party will be featured in a silent auction during Taste of Mississippi. Participating restaurants include The King Edward Grill, Walkers Drive In (late addition), Ely’s Restaurant and Bar, and VIP Grand Events. Beverages will be provided by Republic Beverages.
Admission is free, although a $20 donation is recommended.
Both the Preview Party and Taste of Mississippi benefit Stewpot Community Services. Last year, Taste of Mississippi raised more than $114,000 to fight homelessness and hunger in the Jackson area, setting an all-time record for Stewpot fundraising.

OLD CAPITOL MUSEUM
The Old Capitol Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9am-5pm and on Sundays from 1pm-5pm. The Old Capitol was the first building to house all three branches of the state’s government under one roof, and the Governor’s Office, Supreme Court room, and House of Representative and Senate Chambers have been restored to their nineteenth-century appearances. The new season of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra has begun. The Mississippi Symphony is offering concerts for all music lovers. Standard Life Building

King Edward Hotel
The King Edward is open. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on December 17th. The 186 room Hilton Garden Inn takes up the first eight floors with a Seattle’s Best Coffee and the King Edward Grill and Bar on the first floor. The 64 apartments are all leased with residents moving in the first of January. The grand opening celebration is scheduled for February 17th. Roberts Walthall Hotel
The 203 room hotel, formerly known as the Edison Walthall Hotel, is in the midst of a $12 million historic restoration. The St. Louis based Roberts Brothers are renovating the hotel from top to bottom and will hold a grand reopening in early 2010.
United States Federal Courthouse
Work is ongoing on the $122 million 350,000 square foot courthouse. Drive by and you will see the facade being installed. The facility should be completed in summer 2010.
