Culture-Performing Arts
Downtown Jackson is the cultural and performing arts center for the metro area. Museums, numerous historic sites, and several performing arts organizations call Downtown home.
The Mississippi Museum of Art is Mississippi’s largest art museum. The Museum recently moved into its newly renovated $14 million, 54,000 square foot facility. The Museum of Art now displays works from its permanent collection year round as well as special touring exhibitions like Between God & Man: Angels in Italian Art. In addition, the Museum offers a wide range of educational programs and activities for adults and children.
The USA International Ballet Competition is an “Olympic-Style” event held every four years at Thalia Mara Hall. The USA IBC draws more than 35,000 visitors from across the United States and other countries to Downtown for the two-week competition.
The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra performs an array of concerts ranging from classical music to pop favorites in large halls to intimate settings starting in early fall and ending in late spring.
Ballet Mississippi has a long history of providing exquisite performances and excellent classical ballet training for the Jackson metro area.
Thalia Mara Hall is the city’s auditorium that showcases a variety of events including plays, concerts, musicals, and performances by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
The Mississippi Arts Center is a division of the City of Jackson’s Department of Human and Cultural Services whose mission is to serve as host venue to art and cultural organizations by providing office and classroom space.
